Giovanna Valdez is a founding partner of Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, LLP. She focuses her practice in the area of immigration and nationality law, including family-based immigration, humanitarian immigration (asylum, VAWA, U Visas, T Visas and SIJS), naturalization, immigration appeals, and removal defense. She represents clients with cases before the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the Department of Justice. She was selected to the 2019 Illinois Rising Star List by Super Lawyers.

Ms. Valdez is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) where she serves as the co-chair of the USCIS District Director committee and is a member of the Ethics committee. As District Director co-chair, Ms. Valdez spoke at the November 9, 2018 Fall Family and Removal Conference on the District Office panel.  Most recently, Ms. Valdez is a confirmed panel speaker for the 2019 AILA Annual Conference on Immigration Law to be held June 19-22, 2019.

In law school, Ms. Valdez was an active member of the Society of Asylum and Immigration Law.  In addition, for three years she was a volunteer student attorney at the DePaul College of Law Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic focusing on Removal Defense and U non-immigrant visas.  Throughout law school, Ms. Valdez interned for influential Chicago non-profit organizations providing immigration services for underserved communities. 

Prior to co-founding Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, Ms. Valdez practiced immigration law at a private firm in Chicago for 5 years. Ms. Valdez received her B.A. in Marketing with a Concentration in Professional Sales from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law with a certificate in Public Interest Law. Ms. Valdez is fluent in Spanish and is admitted to practice law in Illinois.

Laura Vilim is a founding partner of Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, LLP. She focuses her practice in the area of immigration and nationality law, including family-based immigration, humanitarian immigration (asylum, VAWA, U Visas, T Visas and SIJS), naturalization, immigration appeals, and removal defense. She represents clients with cases before the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the Department of Justice. During the 2017-2018 school year, Ms. Vilim was an adjunct professor at Valparaiso University School of Law, where she taught and supervised the immigration law clinic. Prior to co-founding Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, LLP, Ms. Vilim practiced immigration law at a private firm in Chicago. She also served a 2-year term as an Attorney Advisor through the U.S. Attorney General Honors Program at the Chicago Immigration Court, Executive Office for Immigration Review, Department of Justice. She has a background in human rights and advocacy work, which she gained by working at Amnesty International before she became an attorney.

Ms. Vilim speaks Spanish. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and sits on the AILA EOIR Liaison Committee and the AILA Midwest Regional Conference Planning Committee. She has been invited to speak at events sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association’s Immigration and Nationality Committee as well as community organizations such as Albany Park Community Center, Southwest Organizing Project, and Latinos Progresando.

Ms. Vilim obtained her J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center with a Certificate in Refugee and Humanitarian Emergencies. She obtained her B.A. magna cum laude in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame. She is admitted to practice law in Illinois.

Lindsay Wunrow is a founding partner of Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, LLP. She focuses her practice in the area of immigration and nationality law, including family-based immigration, humanitarian immigration (asylum, VAWA, U Visas, T Visas and SIJS), naturalization, immigration appeals, and removal defense. Ms. Wunrow was selected as a 2019 Illinois Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Ms. Wunrow currently serves as the Chair of the Immigration and Nationality Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) where she serves on the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) committee. In 2016, Ms. Wunrow traveled to Dilley, Texas to volunteer at the South Texas Family Residential Center, helping women and children seek asylum after fleeing violence in their home countries.

Ms. Wunrow has been invited to speak at events sponsored by the DePaul Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic, Protecting Immigrant Families Illinois, Albany Park Community Center, Latinos Progresando, and other organizations. Her presentation topics have included: the proposed changes to the public charge regulation, advanced naturalization issues, Know Your Rights, and removal defense basics.

Prior to co-founding Valdez Vilim & Wunrow, Ms. Wunrow practiced immigration law at a private firm in Chicago for 5 years.  Ms. Wunrow graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Spanish. She received her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law in Syracuse, New York. She is fluent in Spanish, and is admitted to practice law in Illinois.
